Achtzig Jahre, und kein bißchen müde! Die Lust des John Mayall, auf Tournee zu gehen und seinen Blues zu spielen, ist auch nach seinem 80. Geburtstag ungebrochen. Und einer offenbar liebgewordenen Tradition folgend, gastierte er auf seiner »80th Anniversary Tour« auch diesmal in der »Kantine« in Köln. Auch diesmal lief alles wie gewohnt ab; er saß am Eingang, verkaufte und signierte vor und nach dem Konzert seine (gerade erst aufgenommene) CD. Pünktlich um 20 Uhr begann er, und pünktlich nach 100 Minuten beendete er mit seiner obligatorischen, von allen erwarteten und bejubelten Zugabe Room To Move

Wie immer war es spannend, seine Interaktion mit den Bandmitgliedern zu beobachten; wie er sie führte, und wie sie sich von ihm führen ließen. In einem Interview sagte er einst »I feel you have to be born a bandleader, really. I can't imagine being a sideman. Leading seems natural to me.«
Seine Setlist (er legte übrigens keine Zettel aus, sondern sagte jeden Titel zuvor an) umfaßte sowohl altbekannte Titel wie den Eröffnungstitel »Hide Away«, »California«, »So Many Roads«, Nature's Disappearing Nature's Disappearing
